With factory processes dependant on a constant source of compressed air, CompAir has launched Q-life, a globally available, predictive maintenance system for its new Quantima oil-free compressor.

Q-life assures that every Quantima compressor sold worldwide is inherently reliable – not only in its construction, but in its daily operation, by remotely monitoring every unit 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

Less Parts – Less to Go Wrong
Quantima’s intelligent compression design means that there are significantly less parts than in a conventional compressor, with no gears and far fewer bearings and seals. There are also no contacting parts in the entire Q-drive compression assembly, so, with fewer components and no friction wear, reliability is improved.

The Benefits of Predictive Maintenance
Although Quantima offers highly-reliable operation, it is still important that the unit is serviced and maintained professionally to ensure peak performance at all times.

As well as routine servicing that is scheduled in advance with the plant manager, CompAir provides its Q-life predictive maintenance package as standard on all Quantima compressors.

Predictive maintenance helps to prevent unscheduled downtime, by tracking the compressor’s operating parameters and performance to predict when parts or components will need servicing or replacing.

In practice therefore, Q-life means that CompAir will fix the part before it fails, by identifying problematic components long before routine replacement would normally take place. If CompAir’s remote monitoring centre does identify a potential failure, the customer will be contacted in advance to schedule a suitable service time. The local CompAir engineer will then arrive at the customer’s site, with prior knowledge of the issue and all the necessary parts to carry out the service or repair quickly and professionally.

In contrast, conventional preventative maintenance focuses on agreed service schedules and requires the unit to be taken out of service at routine intervals and the parts and components maintained or changed on site. With Q-life however, CompAir will only change a part when it is absolutely necessary to do so, to avoid shutting down a process unnecessarily.

No Surprises
Maintenance and service can equate to around 8% of a compressor’s lifecycle costs and unplanned repairs can cause costs to escalate. Q-life is a completely inclusive service package, providing maintenance and repair of any component for a single, annual fixed cost, allowing operators to budget accurately and avoid unplanned service expenses completely.

Plant managers can also receive regular, detailed reports of the compressor’s overall system performance, helping to improve plant efficiencies further.
